About the Weighted Grade Average Calculator

What is the Weighted Grade Average Calculator?

When assignments, mid-terms and the final exam carry different weights, a simple average misleads. This weighted grade calculator multiplies each score by its weight.

If the weights do not add up to 100, they are scaled proportionally.

How to use the Weighted Grade Average Calculator

  1. Components (one per line: name, weight %, score %) — one component per line: name, weight %, score %. For example: Final exam, 50, 80. (sample: Assignments, 20, 85 Mid-term, 30, 72 Final exam, 50, 80)
  2. Press Calculate Weighted Average (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Weighted Average, along with Total weight entered, Simple (unweighted) average and Note.

Formula used

Weighted average = Σ (Weight × Score) ÷ Σ Weights

Scores should be in percent; convert marks out of other totals first.

Tips for using the Weighted Grade Average Calculator

  • Focus effort on heavily weighted components.
  • Use the marks-needed calculator to plan for the final exam.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply each score by its weight, add them and divide by the total weight. 20% × 85 + 30% × 72 + 50% × 80 = 78.6.

Divide by the sum of weights instead of 100.

Your weaker scores are in the more heavily weighted components.
