About the CGPA Calculator
What is the CGPA Calculator?
Your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is the credit-weighted average of all your semester SGPAs. This cgpa calculator weights each semester by its credits, as universities do.
It also converts CGPA to percentage using the two most common formulas.
How to use the CGPA Calculator
- Semesters (one per line: semester, SGPA, credits) — one semester per line: name, SGPA, credits. For example: Semester 1, 8.2, 22. (sample: Semester 1, 8.2, 22 Semester 2, 8.6, 24 Semester 3, 7.9, 23 Semester 4, 8.4, 24)
- Press Calculate CGPA (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the CGPA, along with Total credits, Percentage – CBSE convention (CGPA × 9.5), Percentage – AICTE formula ((CGPA − 0.75) × 10) and Simple average of SGPAs (not credit-weighted).
Formula used
CGPA = Σ (SGPA × Semester credits) ÷ Σ Credits
- CBSE convention = percentage = CGPA × 9.5
- AICTE formula = percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Always use the conversion formula printed on your marksheet or notified by your university.
Worked example
These are the sample values already filled in the calculator above, and the result it returns for them:
| Input | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Semesters (one per line: semester, SGPA, credits) | Semester 1, 8.2, 22 Semester 2, 8.6, 24 Semester 3, 7.9, 23 Semester 4, 8.4, 24 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| CGPA | 8.28 |
| Total credits | 93 |
| Percentage – CBSE convention (CGPA × 9.5) | 78.67% |
| Percentage – AICTE formula ((CGPA − 0.75) × 10) | 75.31% |
| Simple average of SGPAs (not credit-weighted) | 8.28 |
Tips for using the CGPA Calculator
- A simple average of SGPAs is wrong if semesters carry different credits.
- Employers and admissions often ask for both CGPA and the equivalent percentage.
