About the STT Calculator
What is the STT Calculator?
Securities transaction tax (STT) is levied on every trade on Indian stock exchanges. This STT calculator applies the current rates by segment.
Rates for futures and options were raised from 1 October 2024 to 0.02% and 0.1% respectively.
How to use the STT Calculator
- Segment (sample: Equity delivery)
- Buy Value (₹, premium for options) (sample: 1,00,000)
- Sell Value (₹, premium or intrinsic value for options) (sample: 1,10,000)
- Press Calculate STT (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Securities Transaction Tax, along with STT on the buy side, STT on the sell side, Rate and Income-tax treatment.
Formula used
STT = Buy value × Buy rate + Sell value × Sell rate
- Delivery = 0.1% on buy and sell
- Intraday = 0.025% on sell
- Futures = 0.02% on sell
- Options = 0.1% of premium on sell; 0.125% of intrinsic value if exercised
STT cannot be deducted when computing capital gains, but F&O traders can deduct it as a business expense.
