About the Overtime Hours Calculator
What is the Overtime Hours Calculator?
Under Section 59 of the Factories Act, work beyond 9 hours a day or 48 hours a week earns overtime at twice the ordinary rate. This overtime hours calculator applies that rule.
The ordinary hourly rate is worked out from basic pay plus dearness allowance.
How to use the Overtime Hours Calculator
- Monthly Basic + DA (₹) (sample: 26,000)
- Hours Worked per Day (sample: 10)
- Days Worked per Week (sample: 6)
- Normal Hours per Day (sample: 9)
- Normal Hours per Week (sample: 48)
- Overtime Rate (× ordinary rate) (sample: 2)
- Days for Daily Rate (sample: 26)
- Press Calculate Overtime (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Overtime Pay per Month, along with Overtime hours per week, Overtime hours per month (avg.), Ordinary hourly rate and Overtime hourly rate.
Formula used
OT hours = max(daily excess, weekly excess); OT pay = OT hours × (Basic + DA) ÷ 26 ÷ 8 × 2
- Daily excess = hours beyond 9 each day
- Weekly excess = hours beyond 48 in the week
