About the Overtime Calculator
What is the Overtime Calculator?
Indian law requires overtime to be paid at twice the ordinary rate of wages for work beyond the normal hours – 9 a day or 48 a week under the Factories Act.
This calculator converts monthly wages into an hourly rate and applies the overtime multiplier.
How to use the Overtime Calculator
- Monthly Wages – Basic + DA (₹) (sample: 26,000)
- Working Days per Month (sample: 26)
- Normal Hours per Day (sample: 8)
- Overtime Hours Worked (sample: 20)
- Overtime Rate (× ordinary rate) (sample: 2)
- Press Calculate Overtime Pay (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Overtime Pay, along with Ordinary hourly rate, Overtime hourly rate and Total pay this month.
Formula used
Overtime pay = Monthly wages ÷ (Working days × Hours per day) × 2 × Overtime hours
- Monthly wages = basic + DA (and other allowances if your rules include them)
Overtime hours are capped by law each quarter; check your state rules.
