About the Moonlighting Tax Impact Calculator
What is the Moonlighting Tax Impact Calculator?
If you earn consulting or freelance income alongside a salary, this freelance income tax calculator compares the two ways of declaring it: presumptive 44ADA (50% of receipts) and actual profit after expenses.
It deducts TDS your clients have already cut and shows whether you owe advance tax and when.
How to use the Moonlighting Tax Impact Calculator
- Annual Salary – Gross (₹) (sample: 15,00,000)
- Freelance / Consulting Receipts (₹) (sample: 6,00,000)
- Actual Expenses (₹) (sample: 80,000)
- TDS Already Deducted by Clients (₹) (sample: 60,000)
- Press Compare Tax Options (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Extra Tax Payable (Best Method), along with Better method, Extra tax – presumptive 44ADA, Extra tax – actual profit and Balance after client TDS.
Formula used
Balance tax = min(Extra tax under 44ADA, Extra tax on actual profit) − Client TDS
- Advance tax = required if the balance is ₹10,000 or more: 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December, 100% by 15 March
Interest under Sections 234B and 234C applies if advance tax is short or late.
