About the Frequency Calculator
What is the Frequency Calculator?
This frequency calculator offers three methods: from the period of a waveform (f = 1/T), from wavelength and wave speed (f = v/λ), or the resonant frequency of an inductor–capacitor circuit.
Results appear in Hz, kHz, MHz or GHz as appropriate, along with the period and angular frequency.
How to use the Frequency Calculator
- From (sample: Period (f = 1 ÷ T))
- Period (ms) (sample: 20)
- Wavelength (m) (sample: 1)
- Wave Speed (m/s) (sample: 343)
- Inductance (µH) (sample: 10)
- Capacitance (nF) (sample: 100)
- Press Calculate Frequency (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Frequency, along with Readable, Period and Angular frequency (ω = 2πf).
Formula used
f = 1 ÷ T; f = v ÷ λ; f = 1 ÷ (2π√(LC))
- ω = 2πf, angular frequency in rad/s
India's mains frequency is 50 Hz, a period of 20 ms.
Worked example
These are the sample values already filled in the calculator above, and the result it returns for them:
| Input | Sample value |
|---|---|
| From | Period (f = 1 ÷ T) |
| Period (ms) | 20 |
| Wavelength (m) | 1 |
| Wave Speed (m/s) | 343 |
| Inductance (µH) | 10 |
| Capacitance (nF) | 100 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Frequency | 50 Hz |
| Readable | 50 Hz |
| Period | 20 ms |
| Angular frequency (ω = 2πf) | 314.16 rad/s |
Tips for using the Frequency Calculator
- Measure the period on an oscilloscope between two identical points of the waveform.
- LC resonance is the basis of radio tuning circuits and filters.
