About the Freelance Day Rate Calculator
What is the Freelance Day Rate Calculator?
Freelancers must cover their own expenses, taxes, leave and slow months. This freelance day rate calculator works back from the take-home you want to the yearly billing and day rate you need.
It supports presumptive taxation under Section 44ADA, where only 50% of receipts is treated as taxable income.
How to use the Freelance Day Rate Calculator
- Target Take-Home per Year (₹) (sample: 15,00,000)
- Business Expenses per Year – laptop, software, co-working (₹) (sample: 2,00,000)
- Billable Days per Year (sample: 200)
- Tax Method (sample: Presumptive – Section 44ADA (50% of receipts taxed))
- Press Calculate My Day Rate (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Day Rate, along with Hourly rate (8-hour day), Yearly billing needed, Income tax on it and GST.
Formula used
Find billing R such that R − Expenses − Tax(R) = Target take-home; Day rate = R ÷ Billable days
- Tax (44ADA) = new-regime tax on 50% of receipts
- Tax (actual) = new-regime tax on receipts − expenses
44ADA applies to specified professionals with receipts up to ₹75 lakh when cash receipts are within 5%.
