About the ESOP Future Value Calculator
What is the ESOP Future Value Calculator?
Startup ESOPs can be valuable – or worth nothing. This ESOP value calculator projects the share value at a future exit, reduces it for dilution from later funding rounds, deducts tax and weights the result by the chance of a successful exit.
The risk-adjusted figure is a sensible number to use when comparing job offers.
How to use the ESOP Future Value Calculator
- Vested / Expected Options (sample: 4,000)
- Exercise Price (₹) (sample: 100)
- Current Value per Share (₹) (sample: 400)
- Expected Value Growth (% per year) (sample: 25)
- Years to Liquidity (IPO / buyback) (sample: 4)
- Dilution from Future Funding (%) (sample: 20)
- Chance of a Successful Exit (%) (sample: 40)
- Your Income Tax Slab (sample: 30%)
- Press Project ESOP Value (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Risk-Adjusted Expected Value, along with Projected value per share, Gross gain if the exit happens, Tax on the perquisite and Net gain if the exit happens.
Formula used
Expected value = Options × (Future value − Exercise price) × (1 − Tax) × Probability of exit
- Future value = current value × (1 + growth)ⁿ × (1 − dilution)
Assumes options are exercised and sold together at the exit.
