About the Electrical Bill Calculator
What is the Electrical Bill Calculator?
Indian electricity tariffs are telescopic: the first units are cheapest and each slab above costs more. This electricity bill calculator applies your slabs, then adds fixed charges, the fuel or power purchase adjustment and electricity duty.
Edit the slabs to match your discom's tariff order – they differ between states and change every year.
How to use the Electrical Bill Calculator
- Units Consumed (kWh) (sample: 350)
- Tariff Slabs (one per line: up to units, ₹ per unit; use "above" for the last) — one slab per line: upper limit in units, rate per unit. Use "above" for the last slab, for example "above, 8.50". (sample: 100, 3.50 300, 5.50 500, 7.00 above, 8.50)
- Sanctioned Load (kW) (sample: 3)
- Fixed Charge (₹ per kW per month) (sample: 40)
- Fuel / Power Purchase Adjustment (₹ per unit) (sample: 0.3)
- Electricity Duty (% of energy charges) (sample: 5)
- Press Calculate Electricity Bill (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Total Bill, along with Energy charges, Fixed charges, Fuel adjustment and Electricity duty.
Formula used
Bill = Σ (Units in slab × Slab rate) + Fixed charge + Fuel adjustment + Duty
- Fixed charge = sanctioned load (kW) × ₹ per kW
- Duty = percentage of energy charges
Some states offer free or subsidised units; enter a rate of 0 for those slabs.
Worked example
These are the sample values already filled in the calculator above, and the result it returns for them:

| Sanctioned Load (kW) | 3 |
| Fixed Charge (₹ per kW per month) | 40 |
| Fuel / Power Purchase Adjustment (₹ per unit) | 0.3 |
| Electricity Duty (% of energy charges) | 5 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Total Bill | ₹2,115 |
| Energy charges | ₹1,800 |

Tips for using the Electrical Bill Calculator
- Crossing into a higher slab by a few units can raise the average cost; spread heavy use across months where possible.
- Check your tariff on your state electricity regulatory commission's website.
