About the Depreciation SLM Calculator
What is the Depreciation SLM Calculator?
Straight-line depreciation charges the same amount every year over an asset's useful life. It is the method most Indian companies use in their books under Schedule II of the Companies Act.
Enter the cost, the expected residual value and the useful life to get the yearly charge and a full schedule.
How to use the Depreciation SLM Calculator
- Asset Cost incl. Installation (₹) (sample: 10,00,000)
- Residual (Salvage) Value (₹) (sample: 50,000)
- Useful Life (years) (sample: 10)
- Press Calculate Straight-Line Depreciation (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Yearly Depreciation, along with Depreciation rate (on cost), Depreciable amount and Monthly depreciation.
Formula used
Yearly depreciation = (Cost − Residual value) ÷ Useful life
- Residual value = usually up to 5% of cost under Schedule II
For income tax, the written-down value method at block rates applies instead.
