Material Cost —

Sample inputs are pre-filled so you can see a result quickly. Results are estimates only and may not be accurate because prices, interest rates, taxes, fees, fuel costs, tariffs, market returns, medical costs, and local rules can change. Please verify current values before making financial, tax, legal, medical, or business decisions.

Formula used

Quantity = Built-up area × Thumb-rule factor

  • Factors per sq ft = cement 0.4 bag, steel 4 kg, sand 1.816 cft, aggregate 1.35 cft, bricks 8
  • Total cost = material cost ÷ 0.6 (materials are about 60% of cost)

About the Civil BOM Estimator

What is the Civil BOM Estimator?

This construction material estimator uses standard thumb rules per square foot of built-up area to create a quick bill of materials for an RCC-framed building with brick walls.

Enter local rates for cement, steel, sand, aggregate and bricks to get the material cost and an approximate total construction cost.

How to use the Civil BOM Estimator

  1. Built-up Area (sq ft) (sample: 1,000)
  2. Cement (₹ per 50 kg bag) (sample: 400)
  3. TMT Steel (₹ per kg) (sample: 65)
  4. Sand (₹ per cft) (sample: 60)
  5. Aggregate (₹ per cft) (sample: 50)
  6. Bricks (₹ each) (sample: 9)
  7. Press Estimate Materials & Cost (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Material Cost, along with Material cost per sq ft, Approximate total construction cost (materials ≈ 60%) and Basis.

Formula used

Quantity = Built-up area × Thumb-rule factor

  • Factors per sq ft = cement 0.4 bag, steel 4 kg, sand 1.816 cft, aggregate 1.35 cft, bricks 8
  • Total cost = material cost ÷ 0.6 (materials are about 60% of cost)

Thumb rules are for early budgeting; a detailed estimate follows the drawings.

Worked example

These are the sample values already filled in the calculator above, and the result it returns for them:

InputSample value
Built-up Area (sq ft)1,000
Cement (₹ per 50 kg bag)400
TMT Steel (₹ per kg)65
Sand (₹ per cft)60
Aggregate (₹ per cft)50
Bricks (₹ each)9
ResultValue
Material Cost₹6,68,460
Material cost per sq ft₹668.46
Approximate total construction cost (materials ≈ 60%)₹11,14,100
BasisThumb-rule quantities for an RCC-framed building with brick walls

Tips for using the Civil BOM Estimator

  • Buy steel and cement in phases to manage price swings.
  • Keep 10% contingency over the estimate.

Frequently asked questions

About 400 bags by the thumb rule.

About 3.5–4.5 kg for residential RCC buildings.
