About the Step-Up SIP Calculator
What is the Step-Up SIP Calculator?
A step-up SIP (also called a top-up SIP) automatically increases your monthly investment by a set percentage every year. Because most people's income rises over time, stepping up the SIP keeps your savings rate in line with your earnings and dramatically increases the final corpus.
Enter a starting SIP, the yearly step-up percentage, the expected return and the period. The calculator shows the projected corpus, the total you will invest and the wealth gained. Set the step-up to 0 to compare it with a flat SIP.
How to use the Step-Up SIP Calculator
- Monthly SIP (₹) (sample: 5,000)
- Expected Return (% per year) (sample: 12)
- Investment Period (Years) (sample: 15)
- Annual Step-Up (%) — the yearly increase, for example 10 for 10%. (sample: 10)
- Lump Sum (₹) (sample: 0)
- Target Corpus (₹) (sample: 1,00,00,000)
- Press Calculate SIP (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Projected Corpus, along with Total Invested, Wealth Gained, Required SIP for Target and Additional SIP Needed.
Formula used
SIP in year k = P × (1 + s)^(k − 1)
- P = the starting monthly SIP
- s = the yearly step-up rate
- i = the monthly return (annual return ÷ 12)
Each month, corpus = (corpus + that year's SIP) × (1 + i). The SIP is raised once every 12 months.

Tips for using the Step-Up SIP Calculator
- Match the step-up to your expected salary increase — 5% to 10% is common.
- Most fund houses let you set an automatic top-up when you register the SIP mandate.
- Even a 5% step-up adds a large amount over 15–20 years because later, larger instalments still compound.
