About the Stamp Duty Calculator

What is the Stamp Duty Calculator?

Stamp duty is a state tax on property purchase documents, paid by the buyer when registering the sale deed, together with a registration fee. It typically adds 5–9% to the cost of a property, and several states charge women buyers a lower rate.

Enter the property value, choose the state and buyer, and the calculator shows the stamp duty, registration fee, total government charges and the full cost of the property. Choose “Other state” to enter your own rates.

How to use the Stamp Duty Calculator

  1. Property Value (₹, agreement or circle rate, whichever is higher) (sample: 80,00,000)
  2. State / City (sample: Maharashtra – Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nagpur (incl. 1% metro cess))
  3. Buyer (sample: Man)
  4. Custom Stamp Duty Rate (% – for “Other state”) (sample: 6)
  5. Custom Registration Fee (% – for “Other state”) (sample: 1)
  6. Press Calculate Stamp Duty (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Stamp Duty Payable, along with Stamp duty rate applied, Registration fee, Total government charges and Total cost of the property.

Formula used

Stamp duty = Property value × Stamp duty rate

  • Property value = the higher of the agreement value and the government circle rate (ready reckoner)
  • Registration fee = usually 1% of the value (capped at ₹30,000 in Maharashtra)

Rates shown are typical; states revise them and add cesses, so confirm the current rate before paying.
