About the SIP Pause Impact Calculator
What is the SIP Pause Impact Calculator?
Many fund houses let you pause a SIP for a few months when money is tight. Pausing is better than stopping, but every skipped instalment also loses all the compounding it would have earned until the end of your plan.
Enter your SIP, expected return, total period, when the pause starts and how long it lasts. The SIP pause calculator compares the corpus with and without the pause and separates the contributions skipped from the growth lost.
How to use the SIP Pause Impact Calculator
- Monthly SIP (₹) (sample: 10,000)
- Expected Return (% per year) (sample: 12)
- Total Investment Period (years) (sample: 15)
- Pause Starts After Month (sample: 36)
- Pause Length (months) (sample: 12)
- Press Calculate Pause Impact (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Corpus Lost to the Pause, along with Corpus without a pause, Corpus with the pause, Instalments skipped and Contributions skipped.
Formula used
Loss = Corpus without pause − Corpus with pause
- Growth lost = Loss − skipped contributions
Both corpora use the standard SIP formula; the paused months contribute nothing but the existing balance keeps growing.

Tips for using the SIP Pause Impact Calculator
- A pause early in a long SIP costs more than one near the end, because those instalments would have compounded longest.
- After the pause, a small top-up or step-up can recover the shortfall.
- Avoid pausing just because markets are falling — those instalments buy the cheapest units.
