About the Savings Rate Calculator

What is the Savings Rate Calculator?

Your savings rate is the share of your income that you save and invest instead of spending. It is the single biggest lever you control — a higher savings rate builds wealth faster and shortens the time to financial independence.

Enter your monthly take-home income and how much you save each month (including SIPs, RDs, PPF and EPF top-ups). The calculator shows your savings rate and how much you save in a year.

How to use the Savings Rate Calculator

  1. Monthly Income (INR) (sample: 1,00,000)
  2. Monthly Savings (INR) (sample: 25,000)
  3. Press Calculate Savings Rate (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Savings Rate, along with Monthly Income, Monthly Savings and Annual Savings.

Formula used

Savings rate = Monthly savings ÷ Monthly income × 100

  • Annual savings = Monthly savings × 12

Use take-home (post-tax) income so the rate reflects what you can actually control.

Tips for using the Savings Rate Calculator

  • A savings rate of 20–30% is a solid target for most earners; aggressive FIRE planners aim for 50% or more.
  • Automate savings on salary day so the rate is met before you spend.
  • Increase the rate by part of every raise instead of all of it going to lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions

At least 20% of take-home pay is a common benchmark; 30% or more lets you reach long-term goals much sooner.

Divide what you save each month by your take-home income. Saving ₹25,000 from ₹1 lakh is a 25% savings rate.

Yes, your EPF contribution is saving, though it is already deducted from take-home pay; include it if you use gross income.
