  • r = the annual PPF interest rate
  • k = the year, from 1 to the number of years

About the PPF Calculator

What is the PPF Calculator?

The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a government-backed, 15-year savings scheme. Deposits (₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh a year) qualify for the Section 80C deduction under the old tax regime, and both the interest and the maturity amount are tax-free — the EEE status that makes PPF one of India's most popular long-term savings products.

Enter your yearly contribution, the current interest rate (7.1% for Q2 FY 2025-26) and the number of years. The calculator assumes each year's deposit is made before 5 April, so it earns interest for the full year, and shows the maturity value, total invested and interest earned.

How to use the PPF Calculator

  1. Yearly Contribution (₹) (sample: 1,50,000)
  2. Interest Rate (% per year) (sample: 7.1)
  3. Investment Period (Years) (sample: 15)
  4. Press Calculate PPF (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Maturity Value, along with Total Invested and Interest Earned.

Formula used

Balanceₖ = (Balanceₖ₋₁ + D) × (1 + r)

  • D = the yearly deposit
  • r = the annual PPF interest rate
  • k = the year, from 1 to the number of years

PPF interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of the month and credited once a year, so depositing before the 5th (ideally before 5 April) earns the most.

Worked example

Tips for using the PPF Calculator

  • After 15 years you can extend PPF in blocks of 5 years, with or without fresh deposits.
  • Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year; loans against PPF from the 3rd to the 6th year.
  • The PPF rate is reviewed every quarter by the government — update the rate for current projections.
