About the NSC Calculator
What is the NSC Calculator?
The National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a 5-year post-office savings bond backed by the Government of India. Interest is compounded every year but paid only at maturity, so your money grows safely with a fixed, guaranteed return.
Enter the amount and the rate (7.7% for Q2 FY 2025-26). The calculator shows the maturity value and a year-by-year table. Under the old tax regime, the investment qualifies for Section 80C, and the interest that accrues in the first four years is treated as reinvested, so it also counts for 80C.
How to use the NSC Calculator
- Investment Amount (₹, minimum ₹1,000) (sample: 1,00,000)
- NSC Interest Rate (% per year) (sample: 7.7)
- Press Calculate NSC Maturity (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Maturity Value (after 5 years), along with Total interest earned, Interest eligible for 80C (years 1–4) and Effective annual return.
Formula used
Maturity value = P × (1 + r)⁵
- P = the amount invested (minimum ₹1,000, no upper limit)
- r = the annual NSC interest rate
Interest for each year = value at the start of the year × r. The rate is fixed for the full 5 years at the rate applicable on the purchase date.
