About the Macro Calculator

What is the Macro Calculator?

Macronutrients – protein, carbohydrates and fat – supply all your calories. This macro calculator turns your daily calories and chosen percentages into grams you can track.

Protein and carbohydrates provide 4 kcal per gram and fat provides 9 kcal per gram.

How to use the Macro Calculator

  1. Daily Calories (kcal) (sample: 2,200)
  2. Protein (% of calories) (sample: 30)
  3. Fat (% of calories) (sample: 25)
  4. Carbohydrates (% of calories) (sample: 45)
  5. Meals per Day (sample: 4)
  6. Press Calculate Macros (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Daily Protein, along with Carbohydrates, Fat and Per meal.

Formula used

Grams = Calories × Percentage ÷ kcal per gram

  • Protein, carbs = 4 kcal per gram
  • Fat = 9 kcal per gram

The three percentages must add up to 100.

Tips for using the Macro Calculator

  • A common balanced split is 25–30% protein, 25–30% fat and 40–50% carbohydrates.
  • Set protein first from body weight, then divide the rest between carbs and fat.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply calories by each percentage and divide by 4 (protein, carbs) or 9 (fat). 30% protein of 2,200 kcal is 165 g.

Higher protein helps: for example 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbohydrates.

Calories decide weight change; macros influence muscle retention, fullness and energy.
