About the Loan Effective Rate Calculator
What is the Loan Effective Rate Calculator?
The rate a lender quotes is not what the loan really costs. Processing fees, GST and other upfront charges reduce the money you receive, and flat-rate quotes hide a much higher effective rate. The APR (annual percentage rate) captures all of this in one number.
Enter the loan amount, quoted rate, rate type, tenure, processing fee and other charges. This loan APR calculator shows the EMI, the upfront charges, the amount you actually receive and the effective annual rate.
How to use the Loan Effective Rate Calculator
- Loan Amount (₹) (sample: 5,00,000)
- Quoted Interest Rate (% per year) (sample: 11)
- Rate Type (sample: Reducing balance)
- Tenure (months) (sample: 36)
- Processing Fee (% of loan, GST added) (sample: 2)
- Other Upfront Charges (₹) (sample: 2,000)
- Press Find the Real Interest Rate (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Effective Annual Rate (APR), along with Monthly EMI, Upfront charges, Amount actually received and Total interest + charges.
Formula used
APR: the annual rate r at which Amount received = Σ EMI ÷ (1 + r ÷ 12)ᵏ
- Amount received = loan − processing fee × 1.18 − other charges
- Flat EMI = (P + P × R × months ÷ 1200) ÷ months
The APR is shown as an effective annual rate (monthly rate compounded over 12 months).

Tips for using the Loan Effective Rate Calculator
- Compare loans by APR, not the headline rate.
- Insurance bundled into the loan also raises the APR — include its premium in other charges.
- Digital lenders must show the APR in a Key Fact Statement before you accept.
