Sample inputs are pre-filled so you can see a result quickly. Results are estimates only and may not be accurate because prices, interest rates, taxes, fees, fuel costs, tariffs, market returns, medical costs, and local rules can change. Please verify current values before making financial, tax, legal, medical, or business decisions.

Formula used

Remaining years = ∫ exp(−a·HR ÷ b × (e^(bt) − e^(b·age))) dt from your age onwards

  • b = 0.085 per year (Gompertz slope)
  • a = calibrated so that life expectancy at birth matches the SRS figure
  • HR = combined hazard ratio of your lifestyle factors

About the Life Expectancy Calculator

What is the Life Expectancy Calculator?

This life expectancy calculator starts from India's average life expectancy at birth (SRS abridged life tables 2016–20: 68.6 years for men, 71.4 for women) and a standard mortality model in which risk doubles about every 8 years.

It then adjusts the remaining years for your age, tobacco use, exercise, weight, diabetes and alcohol, and gives the chance of living to 80 and 90.

How to use the Life Expectancy Calculator

  1. Age (years) (sample: 35)
  2. Sex (sample: Male)
  3. Tobacco (sample: Never)
  4. Exercise (sample: Some regular activity)
  5. Body Weight (sample: Healthy BMI)
  6. Diabetes (sample: No)
  7. Alcohol (sample: None or occasional)
  8. Press Estimate Life Expectancy (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Estimated Life Expectancy, along with Years remaining (estimate), Average for your age and sex, Effect of your lifestyle and Chance of reaching 80.

Having survived to your current age, your expected lifespan is higher than the at-birth average.
