About the Import Tax Calculator
What is the Import Tax Calculator?
Buying something from abroad costs more than its price tag. This import tax calculator converts the foreign price and shipping into rupees and adds basic customs duty, the social welfare surcharge and IGST to show the true landed cost.
Enter the product price and shipping in the seller's currency, the exchange rate and the duty rates. The result shows the value in rupees, each tax and the import taxes as a percentage of the value.
How to use the Import Tax Calculator
- Product Price (in foreign currency) (sample: 500)
- Shipping & Insurance (in foreign currency) (sample: 50)
- Exchange Rate (₹ per unit of that currency) (sample: 88)
- Basic Customs Duty (%) (sample: 20)
- IGST Rate (%) (sample: 18)
- Press Calculate Landed Cost (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Total Landed Cost, along with Value in rupees (CIF), Customs duty + surcharge, IGST and Total import taxes.
Formula used
Landed cost = CIF value + BCD + SWS + IGST
- CIF value = (price + shipping & insurance) × exchange rate
- SWS = 10% of BCD
- IGST = (CIF + BCD + SWS) × IGST rate
Courier imports for personal use can attract different combined rates; check with the courier.
