About the Goal SIP Planner
What is the Goal SIP Planner?
Goal-based investing starts from what you need — a child's education, a house down payment, a car — and works backwards to the monthly investment required. The Goal SIP Planner compares your current SIP with the SIP your goal actually needs.
Enter your target corpus, the period, the expected return and any yearly step-up. The result shows the projected corpus from your current SIP, the SIP needed to reach the target and how much you need to add.
How to use the Goal SIP Planner
- Monthly SIP (₹) (sample: 5,000)
- Expected Return (% per year) (sample: 12)
- Investment Period (Years) (sample: 15)
- Annual Step-Up (%) (sample: 10)
- Lump Sum (₹) (sample: 0)
- Target Corpus (₹) — the amount you need on the goal date (inflate today's cost first). (sample: 1,00,00,000)
- Press Calculate SIP (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Projected Corpus, along with Total Invested, Wealth Gained, Required SIP for Target and Additional SIP Needed.
Formula used
Required SIP = the P for which FV(P) = Target
- FV(P) = the future value of a SIP of P per month, with step-up and any lump sum
- Target = your goal amount
The planner searches for the monthly amount whose projected value equals the target, using the same month-by-month compounding as the SIP Calculator.

Tips for using the Goal SIP Planner
- Inflate the goal first: a ₹20 lakh course today may cost about ₹36 lakh in 10 years at 6% inflation.
- Use lower expected returns for goals less than 5 years away and keep that money in debt or hybrid funds.
- Review the plan every year and raise the SIP if you fall behind.
