About the Freelancer Tax Calculator
What is the Freelancer Tax Calculator?
Freelancers, consultants, doctors, lawyers, designers and other professionals can use Section 44ADA, which treats 50% of gross receipts as taxable profit — no books of account or audit needed. Alternatively you can pay tax on actual profit after deducting real expenses.
Enter your gross receipts, the cash share, actual expenses, other income and regime. This freelancer tax calculator checks the 44ADA limit (₹75 lakh if cash receipts are within 5%, otherwise ₹50 lakh), computes tax both ways and recommends the lower one.
How to use the Freelancer Tax Calculator
- Gross Professional Receipts (₹ per year) (sample: 24,00,000)
- Share Received in Cash (%) (sample: 0)
- Actual Business Expenses (₹ per year) (sample: 4,00,000)
- Other Taxable Income (₹) (sample: 0)
- Tax Regime (sample: New regime (default))
- Your Age (sample: Below 60 years)
- Press Calculate Freelancer Tax (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Tax Payable (Best Option), along with Better option, Tax under Section 44ADA, Tax on actual profit and Taxable income under 44ADA.
Formula used
Presumptive income (44ADA) = 50% × Gross receipts
- Actual method = gross receipts − actual business expenses
Under the new regime, a freelancer with ₹24 lakh receipts under 44ADA has ₹12 lakh income — within the 87A rebate, so no tax.
