About the Force Converter
What is the Force Converter?
Engineering drawings mix SI and gravitational force units. This force converter converts all of them through the newton.
Kilogram-force uses standard gravity, 9.80665 m/s².
How to use the Force Converter
- Value (sample: 1)
- From (sample: Kilogram-force (kgf))
- To (sample: Newton (N))
- Press Convert (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Converted Value, along with Result, Conversion factor and Reverse factor.
Formula used
F (N) = Value × (N per unit)
- 1 kgf = 9.80665 N
- 1 lbf = 4.44822 N
- 1 dyne = 10⁻⁵ N
Worked example
These are the sample values already filled in the calculator above, and the result it returns for them:
| Input | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Value | 1 |
| From | Kilogram-force (kgf) |
| To | Newton (N) |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Converted Value | 9.80665 N |
| Result | 1 kgf = 9.80665 N |
| Conversion factor | 1 kgf = 9.80665 N |
| Reverse factor | 1 N = 0.10197162 kgf |
Tips for using the Force Converter
- Load ratings in tonnes usually mean tonne-force: 1 tf ≈ 9.81 kN.
- Use kN for structural loads to keep numbers manageable.
