About the Emergency Fund Calculator
What is the Emergency Fund Calculator?
An emergency fund is money set aside for unexpected events — job loss, a medical emergency, urgent home or vehicle repairs — so you do not have to borrow at high interest or sell investments at a bad time.
Enter your essential monthly expenses, the number of months you want covered and what you have already saved. The calculator shows your target and any shortfall still to be built.
How to use the Emergency Fund Calculator
- Monthly Expenses (INR) (sample: 40,000)
- Coverage Months (sample: 6)
- Current Savings (INR) (sample: 1,00,000)
- Press Plan Emergency Fund (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Fund Target, along with Current Savings, Shortfall and Coverage Months.
Formula used
Emergency fund target = Monthly expenses × Months of cover
- Shortfall = Target − current emergency savings
Include rent or home-loan EMI, groceries, utilities, insurance premiums, school fees and other EMIs — the bills you must pay even without income.

Tips for using the Emergency Fund Calculator
- Salaried people with stable jobs usually need 6 months; business owners, freelancers and single-income families 9–12 months.
- Keep it in a savings account, sweep-in FD or liquid fund — safe and quickly accessible, not in equity.
- Health insurance reduces how much you need to keep for medical emergencies.
