About the Down Payment Calculator

What is the Down Payment Calculator?

Lenders rarely finance the full price of a home or vehicle. The part you pay yourself is the down payment. For home loans, RBI loan-to-value limits mean you must pay at least 10–25% plus stamp duty and registration.

Enter the asset cost and the percentage the loan will cover. This down payment calculator shows the down payment and the loan amount.

How to use the Down Payment Calculator

  1. Asset Cost (INR) (sample: 30,00,000)
  2. Loan Coverage (%) (sample: 80)
  3. Press Calculate Down Payment (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Down Payment, along with Loan Amount, Loan Share and Asset Cost.

Formula used

Down payment = Asset cost × (1 − Loan coverage %)

  • Loan amount = asset cost × loan coverage %

RBI LTV caps for home loans: 90% up to ₹30 lakh, 80% for ₹30–75 lakh, 75% above ₹75 lakh.

Tips for using the Down Payment Calculator

  • Stamp duty and registration are not financed by most lenders — budget them separately.
  • A larger down payment lowers the EMI and total interest.
  • Do not use your emergency fund for the down payment.
