About the Dividend Calculator

What is the Dividend Calculator?

A dividend is the part of a company's profit paid out to shareholders, usually as a fixed amount per share. Dividends provide regular income without selling shares and are a key part of total return for mature companies.

Enter the number of shares you hold, the dividend per share declared in a year and the share price. The calculator shows your annual dividend income, the value of your holding and the dividend yield.

How to use the Dividend Calculator

  1. Number of Shares (sample: 100)
  2. Dividend per Share (INR) (sample: 12)
  3. Price per Share (INR) (sample: 250)
  4. Press Calculate Dividend (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Annual Dividend, along with Invested Amount, Dividend Yield and Shares.

Formula used

Dividend income = Number of shares × Dividend per share

  • Dividend yield = Dividend per share ÷ Share price × 100

Add up all interim and final dividends declared during the year to get the annual dividend per share.

Tips for using the Dividend Calculator

  • Since April 2020, dividends are taxed in the hands of shareholders at their slab rate; companies deduct 10% TDS above ₹10,000 a year per company.
  • A very high yield can signal a falling share price or an unsustainable payout — check the payout ratio.
  • To receive a dividend, you must own the shares before the ex-dividend (record) date.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply 100 by the dividend per share. At ₹12 per share, you receive ₹1,200 (before any TDS).

Yes. Dividends are added to your income and taxed at your slab rate.

Many large Indian companies yield 1–3%; public-sector and utility stocks often yield 4–7%. Yield alone is not a reason to buy a share.
