About the Barista FIRE Calculator
What is the Barista FIRE Calculator?
Barista FIRE is a form of semi-retirement: you leave full-time work and take enjoyable part-time or freelance work that covers part of your expenses, while your investments cover the rest. Because the portfolio only needs to fund the gap, the target corpus is much smaller than full FIRE.
Enter your annual expenses, expected part-time income, withdrawal rate and current corpus. The calculator shows the Barista FIRE number, the full FIRE number, how much less you need and your progress.
How to use the Barista FIRE Calculator
- Annual Expenses (₹) (sample: 12,00,000)
- Expected Part-Time Income (₹ per year) (sample: 4,80,000)
- Safe Withdrawal Rate (%) (sample: 4)
- Current Corpus (₹) (sample: 50,00,000)
- Press Calculate Barista FIRE (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Barista FIRE Number, along with Full FIRE number, Corpus saved by working part-time, Expenses the corpus must cover and Progress to Barista FIRE.
Formula used
Barista FIRE number = (Annual expenses − Part-time income) ÷ Withdrawal rate
- Full FIRE number = Annual expenses ÷ withdrawal rate
