About the Atal Pension Yojana Calculator

What is the Atal Pension Yojana Calculator?

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is a government-guaranteed pension scheme for workers in the unorganised sector. You contribute a fixed amount every month from joining until age 60, and then receive a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000 or ₹5,000 for life.

Choose your age at joining (18 to 40) and the pension you want. The calculator shows the monthly contribution from the PFRDA contribution chart, the total you will contribute, and the corpus returned to your nominee after both you and your spouse have passed away.

How to use the Atal Pension Yojana Calculator

  1. Your Age When Joining (18 – 40) — APY is open to Indian citizens aged 18 to 40 who are not income-tax payers. (sample: 25)
  2. Guaranteed Monthly Pension from Age 60 (sample: ₹5,000)
  3. Press Find APY Contribution (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Monthly Contribution, along with Years of contribution, Total you will contribute, Guaranteed pension from age 60 and Corpus returned to nominee.

Formula used

Monthly contribution = PFRDA chart value for (joining age, pension)

  • Years of contribution = 60 − joining age
  • Nominee corpus = ₹1.7 lakh for every ₹1,000 of monthly pension (₹8.5 lakh for ₹5,000)

Figures for ₹1,000 and ₹5,000 pensions are exact chart values; intermediate pensions are interpolated and may differ from the official chart by about ₹1.

  • Joining early keeps contributions very low — ₹210 a month at 18 versus ₹1,454 at 40 for the ₹5,000 pension.
  • Since 1 October 2022, people who are or have been income-tax payers cannot join APY.
  • After the subscriber's death the spouse receives the same pension, and the nominee gets the corpus after both.
