Formula used

Risk score = 0.4 × Horizon score + 0.4 × Tolerance score + 0.2 × Age score

  • Horizon score = min(horizon, 15) ÷ 15 × 100
  • Tolerance score = (answer − 1) ÷ 4 × 100
  • Age score = (70 − age) ÷ 45 × 100, limited to 0–100
  • Equity % = 20 + 0.6 × score (10 points lower without an emergency fund)

About the AI Portfolio Advisor

What is the AI Portfolio Advisor?

Before choosing investments you need to know your risk profile — how much volatility you can live with and how long your money can stay invested. This portfolio advisor turns a short questionnaire into a transparent risk score and a matching asset allocation.

Enter your age, investment horizon, how you would react to a 20% market fall, whether you have an emergency fund and the amount to invest. The tool calculates a score out of 100, classifies you as conservative, moderate or aggressive and suggests an equity, debt and gold split with an assumed long-run return.

How to use the AI Portfolio Advisor

  1. Your Age (sample: 32)
  2. Investment Horizon (years) (sample: 10)
  3. If your portfolio fell 20% in a month, you would… (sample: Hold and wait)
  4. Do you have 6 months of expenses saved? (sample: Yes)
  5. Amount to Invest (₹) (sample: 5,00,000)
  6. Press Build My Portfolio (results also refresh as you type). The result card shows the Risk Profile, along with Equity (index & diversified funds), Debt (PPF, FDs, debt funds), Gold (gold ETF / SGB) and Equity amount.

Formula used

Risk score = 0.4 × Horizon score + 0.4 × Tolerance score + 0.2 × Age score

  • Horizon score = min(horizon, 15) ÷ 15 × 100
  • Tolerance score = (answer − 1) ÷ 4 × 100
  • Age score = (70 − age) ÷ 45 × 100, limited to 0–100
  • Equity % = 20 + 0.6 × score (10 points lower without an emergency fund)

Expected return assumes 12% for equity, 7% for debt and 8% for gold. The scoring is rule-based and fully shown here, not a black box.

Tips for using the AI Portfolio Advisor

  • Be honest about how you reacted in past market falls — that predicts behaviour better than intentions.
  • Build an emergency fund before taking equity risk.
  • Revisit your profile after major life events such as marriage, a child or a job change.

Frequently asked questions

A measure of how much investment risk you can take, based on your ability (age, horizon, income) and willingness (how you react to losses).

No. It is an educational rule-based tool; consult a SEBI-registered investment adviser for personal advice.

Without one, you may be forced to sell investments during a downturn, so the tool lowers the equity share until it is in place.
